米インターネット広告会社スペシフィック・メディアは29日、交流サイト(SNS)のマイスペースを米メディア大手ニューズ社から買収した、と発表した。マイスペースはかつてSNSで米最大だったが、フェイスブックに利用者を奪われ業績が低迷し、ニューズ社が売却先を探していた。 米メディアによると買収額は3500万ドル(約28億円)。ニューズ社が2005年に買収した際は5億8千万ドル(約470億円)だった。 マイスペースは04年創業。著名人がこぞって利用したことで人気を集め、ニューズ社の傘下に入った。06年にはソフトバンクと合弁で日本でもサービスを始めた。最近は存在感を失い、今年1月に従業員を半減すると発表していた。 スペシフィック社はマイスペースを、ミュージシャンのファンらが交流する場として再生を目指すとみられる。ニューズ社も少数株主として残るという。(ニューヨーク=山川一基)
