流行に乗り遅れないうちに簡単にメモをしておく。ReinhartとRogoffが2010年に書いた”Growth in a Time of Debt”という論文がある。この論文のパンチラインは公的(つまり政府の)債務残高が大きい国は経済成長率が低いというものである。具体的には、先進国では、公的債務のGDPに占める割合が90%を超えている国の成長率は中央値(median)で年率1.6%、平均値(mean)では-0.1%である一方、 債務が90%未満の国は経済成長率が中央値で2.9-4.2%、平均値で2.8-4.1%と、ぜんぜん高いというものである。 もちろんこれは相関を述べているだけで、まともな学者であればそれをそのまま因果関係がある(特に債務が増えると経済成長率が低下する)ように解釈はしないのだが、センセーショナルな相関関係が常にそうであるように因果関係のように引用されてきた。 この研究に対
