世界4大メジャーレコード会社のひとつである英EMIグループはこのほど、DRMの付かない音楽コンテンツの配信を、世界最大の音楽・動画コンテンツ配信サービスであるAppleの「iTunes Store」上で始めると発表した。 「DRM」とはDigital Rights Managementの略。直訳すれば「デジタル著作権管理」という意味だが、オンラインコンテンツ配信においては「PCを通じたコピー回数などを制限する機能」もしくはシンプルに「コピーガード」と同義で意味で使われることが多い。 EMIグループはこれまで、4大メジャーの中でもっともオンライン配信に積極的であり、かつ厳しいDRMをコンテンツに課すレコード会社であった。そのEMIが突如「DRMを外す」と宣言したわけである。今回の発表を受けて、今頃世界中のうるさ型の法務部を抱えるレコード会社は大騒ぎしていることだろう。そして、音楽制作の現場で
