ブレードサーバーの登場で、ラックあたり8kWなどが普通になって来た今、データセンターの設備効率が再度見直されています。米国型のデータセンターは、高い床下スペースととてつもなく高い天井、というのが基本です。これは、万が一データセンターの冷房が壊れた時でも、床下に多く蓄えられた冷気が残っているため、熱によるサーバの破壊がすぐに起こらないためです。もちろん、天井が高いので、サーバから発生した熱もすぐに分散されます。大地震のようなカタストロフィーが起きた際でも、一応Tierレベルの高いデータセンターはローカルに非常用発電を持ってますので、電気の供給は数時間途切れることは無いと仮定します。空調が落ちるようなことがあっても、バックアップを確認して、それからゆっくりとサーバを一つ一つ落としておけばいいのです。こういったリスク回避に注目しすぎるコンセプトの元だと、データセンターの設備は巨大化してゆくばかり
