マンボウ属の分類をめぐる混乱を解決 2017年12月5日 ハイデルベルグ | ニューヨーク 日本の魚類研究者ら*が、今まで捕獲された魚類の中で「最も重い硬骨魚」を正確に同定し、学名を修正しました。当初、一般的によく知られているマンボウMola molaと考えられていた2300キロの巨大魚は、近縁種のウシマンボウMola alexandriniであったことがわかりました。この研究は、元広島大学の澤井悦郎博士のチームにより行われ、日本魚類学会英文誌Ichthyological Researchに発表されました。本誌はシュプリンガーが刊行しています。 硬骨魚類の骨格は、サメやエイのような軟骨ではなく、硬骨で構成されています。マンボウ類は世界最大級の硬骨魚として知られ、その驚くべきサイズと独特の形態は、何世紀にもわたって船乗りたちを魅了してきました。個体の大きさは全長3メートルにも達し、2000キ
