◆デスクトップパブリッシング（DTP）が注目され始めた頃から、文字組みはページレイアウト上での話だけというのが主流でした。大量の文章を効率よく処理するためのDTPですから、当然の流れということになります。 ところが私は、これ以前からパッケージ類のデザイン*、ロゴタイプ、あるいはキャッチフレーズの視覚化といった仕事を中心としていたために、世の中でいうところの支流、いや亜流と揶揄される処理が私にとっての主流という逆転状態を長く続けてきました。もっとも、どちらが主流か支流かといった論争は私にとっては無意味なことでしかありません。 強いて私論を述べれば、美意識や価値観は不変ではないので、固定概念で語るべきではないということでしょうか。これについては連載の後半で触れてみたいと思います。 さて、アナログ時代のデザイナーは文字組み処理は指定だけで、あとは写植屋さんにお任せというワークフローでしたが、初期

フォントサイズ固定に残念な思い 6月20日に、Macromedia Flash Conferenceへ行ってきました。その一番最後の時間枠は、FlashのコンクールというかコンテストというかでFlashの作品をいろいろ募集している、さまざまなサイトの紹介をするスペシャルセッションでした。こういった場では、かなり大きいスクリーンに画面を表示させて、たくさんの受講者みんなで見るというスタイルが採られるわけですが、いくら大きなスクリーンであっても小さな文字なんかを判読するのは困難です。 そのスペシャルセッションのスピーカーの方が、サイトの内容の一部を読み上げたりしながら、「あ、これはちょっと見づらいですね」などといいながら、フォントサイズを大きくしようとブラウザを操作したのですが、そのサイトは文字の大きさを固定しているようで、大きくできませんでした。ちょっと、その中のどのサイトだったかは定かでは
ナール vs じゅん - taquet’s diary
写研の「ナール」とモリサワの「じゅん」、どちらも1970年代初頭の同時期に設計開発された丸ゴシックです。ナールは今でも、標識や看板などでよくみかけます。永遠のライバル（？）であるこの2書体が、15センチと離れていない場所で火花を散らしていました。 左の「石けん」がナール、右の「手洗い」がじゅん（「い」のカタチを見ると違いがわかります） , 実際に手を洗おうとすると、なぜか石けんは出が悪かったです。「じゅん」に洗い流されることを拒んでいるのでしょうか。
