陸上長距離の多くのトップ選手が使用し、相次いで好記録をマークしているスポーツ用品メーカー、ナイキの「厚底シューズ」について、国際競技団体の世界陸連が競技大会での使用を禁止するという見通しをイギリスなどの複数のメディアが伝え、注目されています。 男子マラソンの世界記録保持者、ケニアのエリウド・キプチョゲ選手や、日本記録保持者、大迫傑選手など国内外の多くのトップ選手が使用し、相次いで好記録をマークしてきました。 「厚底シューズ」について、世界陸連は調査を行っていましたが、イギリスの新聞、デイリー・テレグラフは、電子版で世界陸連が底の厚さに制限を加える規則を設けることになり、現在人気があるモデルは競技大会での使用が禁止になるという見通しを伝えました。 一方、ガーディアンの電子版は、まだ議論は続いているとして、完全に禁止するのではなく将来的な技術の進化を規制することに重点をおいているのではないかと
