Lenovoは7日(米国時間)、米Googleと提携して「Project Tango」に対応するスマートフォンを一般向けに発売すると、ラスベガスで開催中のCES 2016(米コンシューマエレクトロニクスショー)で発表した。グローバルで展開し、まずは今夏に米国で発売する。 レノボが発売するProject Tango対応スマートフォンは、ディスプレイサイズが6.5型以下、SoCにQualcommのSnapdragonを採用し、価格は500ドル以下となるという。発表会場では残念ながら実機は披露されず、コンセプトモデルの写真のみ公開となった。現行のデベロッパーキットに含まれるスマートフォンよりも小柄なボディとなるようだ。
米Intel社は、同社のセンシング技術「Intel RealSenseテクノロジー」を組み込んだスマートフォン(スマホ)を試作、IDF15で公開した。米Google社が開発を進めている、スマートフォンやタブレット端末に人間並みの空間や動きの認知能力を持たせる「Project Tango」に向けたもの。AR(拡張現実感)やVR(仮想現実感)などのアプリやサービスなどに活用していく考えだ。 同社CEOのBrian Krzanich氏による基調講演で実演した。Project Tangoは、Google社のATAP(Advanced Technology and Projects)グループが推進してきたプロジェクト。スマホにRealSenseを組み込むことで、スマホの各種アプリケーションで、3D空間データを活用しやすくできる。
カメラや赤外線センサーなどを組み合わせて対象物との距離を正確に把握し、リアルタイムで目の前の空間を3DキャプチャするというGoogleの開発プロジェクト「Project Tango」は、2014年に発表されてから世界中の開発者を含めてさまざまな開発が進められてきました。そんなProject Tangoの「いま」をまとめたムービーが公開されています。 The weird virtual reality of Project Tango - YouTube 記者が装着している白いタブレット状の端末が、Project Tangoの開発レファレンス機。このムービーはThe Vergeが作成したものです。 開発機を装着した4名の人が、部屋の中をうようよと歩き回っています。この4名は、タブレットの画面に映し出されているコンピューターが作りだしたVR(仮想現実)空間の中を歩き回っているところなのです。
