そんな厄介者のクラゲの処分を担当していた同社員が２００４年、クラゲは密集して滞留すると、徐々に弱り、体内の自己溶解酵素で溶けて消滅することを知った。 そこで、この性質を利用し、クラゲを自然消滅させるシステムを考案した。仕組みは、取水口手前にクラゲをせき止める網と、貯留槽（広さ１０メートル四方、深さ２・５メートル）２基を設置し、クラゲをポンプとホースで槽に次々と吸い込んで、そのまま閉じこめておく――というもの。０４年から導入し、徐々に改良を重ね、今年最終的な形に到達した。貯留槽で５日間ほどで消滅するという
