今週のEconomist誌の日本特集は、これまでになくきびしいトーンだ。もう一つの要約記事とあわせて、簡単に紹介しておく（訳はかなり適当）：いま世界の注目は、日本に集まっている。それはその未来に対してではなく、過去に対してである。サブプライムローン問題は、1990年代に日本の経験した不良債権問題に、性格も規模もよく似ている。そして日本は、考えられるかぎり最悪の対応によって、その危機を10年以上も引き延ばし、経済を壊滅させた。アメリカはこの教訓に学び、すばやい償却や金融緩和などによって、危機を早く克服しようとしている。 しかし当の日本には、あまり危機感が感じられない。小泉政権によって日本は改革の方向に歩みだしたようにみえたが、その終わりとともに元に戻り始めている。その最大の原因は、政治が脳死状態に陥っていることだ。これについて当誌の記者が、自民党の大島国対委員長に取材したところ、彼は「何か
