米Googleが、Facebookの友達をソートするiPhoneアプリを提供する米Katangoを買収した。Katangoが自社サイトで11月10日(現地時間)、明らかにした。買収総額などの詳細は公表されていない。 Katangoは2010年創業のサンフランシスコに拠点を置く非公開企業。Facebookの友達を自動的にソートし、Google+のサークルのようなグループに分類するサービスを提供する。7月にはiOSアプリを無料で公開した(現在はApp Storeから削除されている)。 Katangoの約10人の従業員は、買収完了後にGoogle+のチームに参加する。8月にWebアプリを公開したが、現在アクセスできなくなっている。
米Googleは10月12日(現地時間)、ソーシャルメディアサービス「Google+」にハッシュタグとリアルタイム検索の機能を追加したと発表した。 Twitterと同様に、投稿の際にキーワードの頭に半角の「#」を付けると、これがハッシュタグと見なされてクリック可能になる。投稿上のハッシュタグをクリックすると、関連投稿が一覧できる。なお、Google+のチーフアーキテクト、ヨナタン・ザンガー氏の投稿によると、ハッシュタグはASCIIやカタカナを含む全ての文字に対応しているという。 リアルタイム検索は、検索結果に追加された「関連順 新着順」のリンクで「新着順」をクリックすることで利用できる。新着順にすると、新しい投稿が先頭に表示される。投稿が多いテーマだと閲覧が追い付かないくらいになるが、その場合は右側の「一時停止」ボタンをクリックすれば流れを止めることができる。
