この記事では SIGRAPPH2016 に合わせてリリースされた Fabric Engine 2.3 に基づき、Fabric Engine とは何かについてと最近の事情について筆者の所感とともに紹介しよう。以後 Fabric Engine のことを FEと略記する箇所がある。 Fabric Engine とは http://fabricengine.com/ カスタムDCC （デジタルコンテンツ作成） ツール・アプリケーションを作成するためのプラットフォーム1。 つまりツールを作るためのツールだ。単体起動する Canvas の他、各種DCCツールの中からプラグインとして動作し、ホストソフトと連携動作する。FEではとくに、『拡張性, パフォーマンス, ポータビリティ, 手軽さ』に主眼をおいている。VFXやGame向けであったが最近は建築ビジュアライゼーション、VR向けにもフォーカスしている。
