カテゴリー：気候変動と地球環境問題、公園と緑地 はじめに 私は、大学教員として働いていた頃、年に数回海外出張していました。特に欧州や豪州の都市を訪れた時、そして出張から帰ってきた時によく感じることがありました。それは、日本の大都市に樹木が非常に少ないということです。東京を例にすると、欧州・豪州の主要都市（例えば、アムステルダム、フランクフルト、チューリッヒ、シドニーなど）と比べて、街中心部の高木数は半分をはるかに下回るくらいに感じてきました。 日本の都市では公園の数が少なく、広さもないこともありますが、何よりも街中の樹木の数が少ないことが気になっています。そして、生えてきた自然木を、割と簡単に伐採してしまう感覚が日本人の中にあるように思います。理由は様々ですが、邪魔だから、落ち葉が嫌だから、陰になるから、見通しが悪くなるから、単に「雑木」だから、という声をよく聞きます。 そして、今回の東京
