ACSの主張 ACSが5/23日付で公開した資料によれば，PubChemはCASの複製であって，連邦政府は納税者の支援を受けた競合的な科学出版社になることを求めるべきでないと主張している。NIHの助成とは関連のない低分子情報を収集，組織化，流通させることは自由な科学出版への道を閉ざすものとなるし，PubChemに集めれらたデータがパブリックドメインにあることは何ら関係がなく，情報を集めそれを多様な形態で公開するのは，民間部門のすることで，現時点では，収録データがCASと比較して少ないけれど，今後追加されればそれは脅威となる。 NIHその他の主張 当事者のNIHの主張は，PubChemとCASの両者に重複するものは3%ほどで収録の範囲も異なるのであるし，CASは化学文献や特許，化学反応へのリンクを張っているのであるから，競合的とか複製物というよりは補足的なものである（ACSは約100万の化学
