Chromium 開発チームは過去に NPAPI プラグインを廃止すると宣言しており、2015/4/14 にリリースされた Chrome 42 Stable ではデフォルトで無効になりました。 2015/9 頃にリリースされる予定の Chrome 45 で完全に利用不能になる予定です。 Unity Web Player や Silverlight を利用しているサイトの開発担当者は気張ってください。また、 PPAPI ではなく NPAPI の Flash Player を自分でインストールした(そして忘れている)ユーザが「サービスが利用できない」とお問い合わせメールを投げてくる事もあるかもしれません。 NPAPI の Flash Player をアンインストールしてもらうなど頑張って誘導しましょう。ちょっと面倒ですね。 Chromium の中の人達は、NPAPI の無効化を4〜5年前から

Chromeが予定どおりNPAPIプラグインをデフォルトで無効化した（Stableチャンネル）。HTML5対応を表明しているUnityはともかく、メンテナンスモードに入ったSilverlightについてはコンテンツの完全な書き換えが必要になりそうだ。

Chromeは2015年1月、全NPAPIプラグインにつきユーザーが許可するまでブロックする方式に移行する。同年4月、NPAPIプラグインをデフォルト無効化。この時点では企業ユーザー等に特例を設けるが、同年9月にはそれも廃止する。

Blink/V8の開発チームがTurboFanバックエンドにCSS JITを実装してテストしたところ、一定の速度向上は達成できたものの、Blink/V8のコードが複雑になることには見合わないとの判断に至った。当面正式実装はなさそうだ。
