携帯電話への搭載で徐々に広まったBluetooth 登場したばかりの頃、「Bluetooth」は決して世間に広く受け入れられたわけではなかった。むしろほぼ同時期に標準化された、同じく2.4GHz帯を利用する無線LANの規格である「IEEE802.11b」にばかり注目が集まり、Bluetoothへの期待度はそれほど高くなかったように思う。 その背景としては色々と考えられるが、たとえば汎用性を高めたことによる分かりづらさが考えられる。Bluetoothは幅広い用途に対応するべく、多数のプロファイルが提供されている。ただ、個々の機器で対応するプロファイルが異なっていると、同じBluetooth対応でも使えない状況があることから、使いづらいというイメージを持たれてしまったのではないかというわけだ。つまり高い汎用性が仇になってしまったのである。 最初は歴史に数多ある、ブレイクしなかったインターフェイ
