カリフォルニア州でネット売上税法が成立--アマゾンにも課税
カリフォルニア州の消費者は、Amazonで商品を購入する際に売上税を払うことに慣れなければならなくなりそうだ。議論の的となったこの問題について、新しい法案がJerry Brow知事の署名によって成立したからだ。 新法はすぐに施行される予定だが、Amazonなどの小売業者は米国時間2012年9月15日まで売上税を徴収する義務はない。 この問題をめぐっては、2つの陣営が激しい論争を繰り広げてきた。Amazon側の視点に立てば、売上税を課さないことで、すでに格安価格で提供している商品の競争力がさらに増す。不況下にあって、これは全米の消費者にとって特に魅力的でありがたいことだった。 一方、Amazonと対立する陣営は、Amazonのウェブサイトとまったく同じ商品を販売しているのに売上税の納付が法律で義務づけられている小規模事業主に打撃を与えていると主張していた。
