BlackBerryの製造開発で知られるカナダのResearch In Motion (RIM)が、スマートフォン上でMicrosoft Office文書の閲覧や編集を可能にするアプリを開発している米DataVizを実質的に買収したことが、All Things DigitalのDigital Dailyなど複数のメディアの報道で9月7日(米国時間)に判明した。DataVizは現在、主力製品の「Documents To Go」をiPhoneやAndroid、BlackBerry向けに提供しているが、RIMの買収によりBlackBerry版が無償化され、競合ライバルとの差別化に利用されるのではないかという予測が持ち上がっている。 RIMによるDataViz買収の噂は先週末から持ち上がっていた。これはDataVizがwebOS版Documents To Goの開発中止を発表したことを受けたもので
インドの報道情報局(PIB:Press Information Bureau)は現地時間2010年8月30日、カナダResearch In Motion(RIM)のスマートフォン「Blackberry」向けの通信サービスについて国内での提供禁止を検討していた問題で、60日間の猶予期間を設けることを発表した。 Blackberry電子メールサービスなどのデータサービスは、インド当局がアクセスできないRIMのシステムを介して提供していたが、インド当局はこれが違法だとしてサービスを禁じる方向で動いていた。インドでは、電気通信ネットワーク上のコミュニケーションはすべて当局からアクセスできなければならず、すべての通信サービスプロバイダーはこれに従う必要があるとしている。 RIMとインド当局は過去数週間にわたって協議を行い、RIMが一部対策を提案。同日より、当局の要求に対応した運用に変更し、インドの電
