＜概要＞ 近年の大脳高次機能解明には２つのアプローチがある。主として動物モデルにおけるニューロン素子や反射機構、分子化学的研究および動物種の比較研究など「客観的過程」から大脳高次機能を解明する”bottom up strategy”と、神経心理学や広義には精神病理学も含めた「主観的過程」から問題を提起して下位の客観的機構に向かう”top down strategy”が考えられる。後者のアプローチを今や可能なものとした最大の’武器’が、近年のpositron emission tomography（PET）やsingle photon emission computed tomography（SPECT）、さらにはfunctional magnetic resonance imaging（fMRI）などによる非侵襲的脳機能画像解析法である。これらの脳機能解析の進歩は“こころ”にも迫っており、
