米iRobotは1月9日、ロボット開発に取り組む高校生や大学生、研究者向けに、低価格でプログラム可能なロボット「iRobot Create」を開発したと発表した。新ロボットは基本の組み立てが完了しているため、研究者らはゼロから組み立てる必要がない。価格は129.99ドルから。 iRobot Createは、掃除ロボット「iRobot Roomba」の技術をベースとし、Roombaの充電池、リモコン、そのほかアクセサリー類がそのまま使用できる。 iRobot Createはオープンインタフェースであるため、開発者はロボットのセンサーや作動装置の仕組みを知ることができる。また接続部品に業界標準品を採用、他社のセンサー、カメラ、アームなどの電子部品を容易に組み合わせることが可能だ。 iRobot Createのコントロールに使用できる手法は多岐に及ぶ。初心者は10種あるデモモードでロボットの行動
