浮世絵師 葛飾北斎 | 北斎漫画・挿絵・春画にみる北斎の世界 Presented by 浦上蒼穹堂
江戸時代後期、葛飾北斎（1760～1849）は、自ら”画狂人”と称するほど終生描くことに情熱を燃やし、九十年に及ぶ人生を画業一筋に歩んだことはよく知られています。このような北斎の尽きることのない探求心が盛り込まれているのが「北斎漫画」全十五編であり、不朽の名作「冨嶽三十六景」と並んで彼の代表作とされています。 「北斎漫画」でいう漫画とは、折りにふれ、筆のおもむくままに描いた絵といった意味であり、森羅万象あらゆるものを題材に描いた「北斎漫画」は、まさに眼で見る江戸百科ともいうべきものです。それは北斎自身のデータバンクともいうべき性格もおびていて、「冨嶽三十六景」の作品中にも、「北斎漫画」から図柄や構図の原型をもってきたものが見られます。このような「北斎漫画」は、当時、江戸の庶民から大名まで広く親しまれ、今日で言う大ベストセラーとなりました。 「北斎漫画」は、日本国内だけでなく19世紀中頃、ヨ
