ジェイルブレイク(脱獄)済み「iPad」の「Safari」ブラウザ上で「Flash」を実行可能にするアプリケーション「Frash」が開発されている。脱獄ツール「Spirit」を制作するComexが同アプリケーションを開発している。Frashはまだリリースできるほど安定していないため、GitHubからダウンロードして誰でもiOS用に調整や改良を行えるようになっている。また報道によると、Spiritは「iPhone 3GS」や「iOS 4」をサポートする予定だという。
米Adobe Systemsは10月5日、同社主催の開発者向けカンファレンス「Adobe MAX 2009」において、AppleのiPhone、iPod touch向けのリッチでインタラクティブなアプリケーション開発を可能にするオーサリングツール「Adobe Flash Professional CS5」を発表した。 このツールにより、開発者はFlashを使ったアプリケーションをiPhone上でネイティブに実行させられることになる。ただしこれは、Adobeが同日にAdobe MAX 2009において行った「Flash Player 10.1」の発表とは別物だ。AdobeはFlash Player 10.1により、Windows MobileやAndroid、BlackBerry、Palm webOS、Symbian OSなどを搭載する携帯端末でFlashコンテンツのフル再生をサポートする計
AppleがiPhoneやiPadなどでFlash技術をサポートしない理由について、「バグだらけ」「リソース食いで重い」「HTML5で代用できる」といった同社CEOのSteve Jobs氏の発言に加え、裏の政治的理由として「Flashにプラットフォーム環境を乗っ取られる」といった話が指摘されていたりする。だが、あるFlash開発者の弁によれば「そもそもFlashアプリがタッチ動作を想定した作りになっていない」といった根本的な問題があるようだ。 これは、BlogサイトのRoughlyDrafted Magazineの中でFlashデベロッパーのMorgan Adams氏のコメントを引用して紹介されている。同氏はFlashを使ったインタラクティブコンテンツ開発者で、同技術について非常に詳しいという。 同氏によれば、既存のFlashコンテンツを使ったサイトをiPad上で利用したいという要望はある
