日本には「“軍艦○○”と名の付く軍艦でないもの」が沢山ある。 中でも見た目に起因する場合はその関連性の無さが、ある意味で物騒とも取れるこの接頭語がユニークさや親しみに繋がっていることも多く面白い。寿司の「軍艦巻き」などはその筆頭だろう。 世界各国で近いものは結構あるのかもしれないが。 今回取り上げる軍艦マンションもその一つだ。（ネタバレ：あとで割と軍艦に関係あることが判明する） “軍艦”を名に冠するスポットとしては長崎県にある世界遺産『軍艦島』が最も有名だと思うが、建築マニアや変わった場所が好きな人たちの間では軍艦島に負けず劣らず――とまではいかずとも、実は言わずと知れた不思議な魅力のある建物である。 因みに『軍艦アパート』と呼ばれるものもかつて大阪に存在していた。 複雑な構造や見た目からそう呼ばれていたほか後々には「日本の九龍城」とも称されていた、昭和初期に建てられた市営住宅群である。
