【渡辺丘、田井中雅人】米国家安全保障局(NSA)が少なくとも三つのプログラムを組み合わせることで、インターネットや携帯電話などのほぼ世界中の通信記録を対象に収集、分析していたことがNSA元幹部らの証言でわかった。米中央情報局(CIA)のエドワード・スノーデン元職員が内部告発した活動の全体像が浮かび上がった。 朝日新聞はNSAで実際に通信傍受などに携わった元職員6人に米国でインタビューした。 それによると、NSAは「アップストリーム」というシステムを使い、サンフランシスコやニューヨークなどの付近で主に海底の光ファイバーケーブルの情報を直接収集していた。北米には基幹ケーブルなどのネット設備が集中し、世界各地域から送信されるデータの8割以上が経由する。こうした利点を活用し、情報を写し取るものだ。
