アップルは間もなく発売される見通しのiPhone 12シリーズの、仕様の最終調整を進めているが、ここに来て非常に気になるニュースが浮上した。 ニュースサイトFast Companyの9月3日の記事によると、新たに発表されるiPhoneのうち、最速の5G通信に対応するのは最上位機種の「Pro Max」のみで、しかも一部の国限定になるという。さらに、「Pro」に関しては一般的にミッドレンジの5G端末で用いられている、低いグレードの5G通信のみに対応するという。 アップルのこの決定は、多くのユーザーの批判を浴びそうだ。 5G通信においては、ミリ波とサブ6GHzの2種類の電波が用いられるが、ミリ波は超高速な通信速度を実現可能だが、電波の届くエリアが狭く、障害物に弱いという弱点がある。一方で、サブ6GHzは電波が届きやすいものの、通信速度の面で大きな改善にはつながらない。 Fast Companyに
