sessionStorageはsessionStorage.変数名、同一タブ&同一ドメインで維持(別ドメインページに遷移した後戻ってくるのも可)。globalStorageはglobalStorage['ドメイン名'].変数名、ブラウザ再起動後も維持、サブドメイン可。
