都内で開いた記者会見で2008年度の業績を発表するNECの矢野薫（Kaoru Yano）社長（2009年5月12日撮影）。(c)AFP/Yoshikazu TSUNO 【5月14日 AFP】NECは14日、政府主導の次世代スーパーコンピューター開発事業から撤退する方針を明らかにした。経済環境が悪化する中、費用負担の削減が理由だという。 NECは2007年以降、文部科学省が推進する「次世代スーパーコンピュータ・プロジェクト」に理化学研究所（Riken）、日立製作所（Hitachi）、富士通（Fujitsu）とともに参画してきた。 NECの2008年度の純損益は2966億円の赤字。NECの声明によると、同プロジェクトは詳細設計フェーズを終え、製造フェーズへと移行するが、製造フェーズに参画した場合、本体製造に関する多額の投資が見込まれ、業績に大きな影響を与えることが確実であるため、撤退を決断した
