Business Week誌が、IDEO社を「The Power of Design」というカバーストーリーに持ってきた。IDEOというデザインファームはシリコンバレーのパロアルトにある。「知る人ぞ知る」と「けっこう有名」の間くらいの会社だ。熱狂的支持者も多い。「発想する会社！ ― 世界最高のデザイン・ファームIDEOに学ぶイノベーションの技法」という、えらく贅沢な作りの本も日本で出版されているので、ご存知の方も多いかと思う。産業が成熟化してくると、付加価値創造は、デザインなどインタンジブルな価値の比重が高くなってくる。IDEOを題材に「The Power of Design」(デザインの力)を議論するのが、この特集の狙いである。 へぇ、でもビジネスウィークがカバーストーリーで取り上げるほどの会社になったのかぁ、と正直いって驚いた。日本にもオフィスが一時あったはずだが、どうなったんだろう。
