Our team is a couple of months into developing a new application, and our suite of unit 240 tests takes 46 seconds to run. That duration is not excessive yet, but it’s increasing in proportion to the number of tests. In a couple of months, it’ll take a couple of minutes to run our tests. We were surprised by this, as Jest is known for its fast performance. However, while Jest reported that each te
Hold your BASIC shield armor while The JavaScript test bastards are comingLanguage review: Jonathan Atia Why do many teams abandon testingProduction code, the main code where the features live, might not be perfect. That’s a risk or a debt that teams manage in multiple ways. For testing code, the risk is much more dramatic — It can be abandoned altogether. Vanish, gone, not doing anything anymore.
TL;DR When you have Jest as your test runner, passing the --maxWorkers=50% option will make the tests faster in most cases. For watch mode, use --maxWorkers=25%, and for CI disable Jest workers with --runInBand. You can experiment with the percentage and fine-tune for your particular setup. // package.json { "scripts": { // standalone Jest "test": "jest --maxWorkers=50%", "test:watch": "jest --wat
Property based testing is another way to test programs. Instead of relying on hard-coded inputs and outputs, it checks characteristics of the output given the whole range of possible inputs. Coverage more > By nature, property based testing puts less constraints on the inputs. As a consequence, the scope of covered inputs is much higher and can lead to unexplored code paths
# Testing Non-Exported Functions in JavaScript Recently, I finally integrated unit testing into my startup project. I've settled with Jest , I'll speak more about this in a separate journal entry. While writing my test, I ran into a bit of a dilemma of trying to write unit tests for non-exported functions 😖
