How do the Linux kernel developers test their code locally and after they have it committed? Do they use some kind of unit testing and build automation? Test plans?
I was looking for the fastest way to popcount large arrays of data. I encountered a very weird effect: Changing the loop variable from unsigned to uint64_t made the performance drop by 50% on my PC. There are some data structures around that are really useful but are unknown to most programmers. Which ones are they? Everybody knows about linked lists, binary trees, and hashes, but what about Skip lists and Bloom filters for example. I would like to know more data structures that are not so common, but are worth knowing because they rely on great ideas and enrich a programmer's tool box. PS: I
