2009/04/02 米アマゾンの子会社、Amazon Web Services(AWS)は4月2日、多数のOSインスタンスを起動して大規模分散処理を行える「Amazon Elastic MapReduce」のベータサービスを開始した。 Amazon Elastic MapReduceは、オープンソースの分散処理フレームワークApache Hadoop 0.18.3を利用したサービスで、Webブラウザベースの管理コンソールやコマンドラインツール、APIを使ってジョブを投入することで、大量データの解析や計算量の多い科学計算、統計処理が可能。大量のログ処理や機械学習、金融計算、データマイニング、Webサイトのインデクシング処理などに使えるという。 ジョブを処理するノードは、従来からAWSが提供しているAmazon EC2で稼働し、データの入出力にはAmazon S3が使える。データの入力にはイ
年明けの1月6日に開催された2006 International CESでGoogleは、各種便利フリーソフトの詰め合わせ「Google Pack」と、米CBSのテレビ番組などの動画を有料で配信する「Google Video」の2つを発表したが、この先にGoogle書店の計画があるという話も流れてきた。ということは、Amazon対Googleのバトルが始まるのか。 Google書店の話はイギリス放送協会BBCのニュース「Googleが将来オンライン書店を検討中」で流れた。公式なアナウンスではないがインタビューを元にしていることと、すでに「Google Video」で米CBSのテレビ番組などの動画(Flashビデオ)を有料配信するサービスを開始したこともあり、Google書店実現にも期待が高まっている。 Google書店に比較されるGoogle Videoだが、なにより魅力的なのは価格だ。一
「金持ちロングテール」と「貧乏ロングテール」 「アマゾンのようなロングテール」をやろうと思ったら、売上高が数千億円以上といった、その市場での「ガリバー」を目指すとともに、数年間、ものすごい赤字を計上しても投資家を説得できるだけの「インベスター・リレーション力」が必要である。数十億円、数百億円といった程度の物販売上を目指して、「アマゾン的に」ロングテールな領域に踏み込むことは、まったくお勧めできない。 数十億円程度までの物販ビジネスを志向するなら、「ほかが取り扱っていない独自性の高い商品」を扱うべきだろう。それは、ロングテールといえばロングテールではあるが、基本的には大昔から存在する「ニッチ」戦略に過ぎない。しかも、ネットなので、既存のビジネス以上に、その「ニッチ」の中で圧倒的な存在感を確立しない限り利益の確保は難しいだろう。 以上、連載の第2回、第3回で紹介したグーグルやイーベイと、
2008/05/29 米グーグルは現地時間の5月27日、これまでプレビュー版として一部ユーザーに公開していたWebアプリケーションプラットフォームサービス「Google App Engine」(GAE)を、一般向けに公開すると発表した。同時に2008年後半に導入予定の料金体系も明らかにした。 これまで通り500MBのストレージ、月間500万ページビューまでの利用であれば無料。それを超える分については、1CPUコア1時間当たり10~12セント、1GB・1カ月当たり15~18セントかかる。通信帯域の月額は受信について1GB当たり9~11セント。送信については1GB当たり11~13セントとなっている。 この価格設定はAmazon Web Services(AWS)と極めて類似している。例えば「Amazon EC2」(Elastic Compute Cloud)は、1.7GBのメモリ、1CPUコア
