高輝度光科学研究センター(JASRI)は8月23日、大型放射光施設「SPring-8」の高輝度高エネルギー放射光X線を用いた測定と計算機シミュレーションにより、ガラスの形成のしやすさと原子配列の関係を明らかにしたと発表した。 今回の発見はJASRI小原真司主幹研究員らを中心とした、フィンランド・タンペレ工科大学、山形大学、日本原子力研究開発機構、米MDI、英アベリストウィス大学、米アルゴンヌ国立研究所との国際共同研究チームによる成果。米国科学雑誌「Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America」(米国科学アカデミー紀要PNAS)のオンライン版に掲載された。 ガラスは我々の生活になくてはならない、あらゆるところで使われているもの。しかし、ガラスが規則的な結晶構造を取らないにも関わら
