inetdを再起動する
ftpdやtelnetdを稼働させるためのinetdデーモンは設定ファイルである/etc/inetdを編集して、各サーバーの有効無効を設定します。この/etc/inetd.confを編集した後にPCを再起動すれば結果的にinetdが再起動されるので設定内容が有効になりますが、PCを再起動せずにinetdだけを再起動する方法があります。 inetdを再起動するにはrootで以下のコマンドを実行します。 # kill -HUP `cat /var/run/inetd.pid` これで/etc/inetd.confを再読み込みして起動しますので編集した設定が有効になります。

シグナルってなに？
プロセスの動作を中断させたり、再開、変更といった合図を送るための指定を「シグナル」と呼ぶ。シグナルを操作するコマンドとして知られているのが「kill」だ。シグナルには次のような種類があり、例えばconf（設定）ファイルを変更して内容を反映させたい場合は、「HUP」が幅広く使われているだろう。ただし、Red Hat Linuxなどのディストリビューションであれば、あらかじめデーモン制御スクリプトが用意されているため、「/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb restart」と指定するのがスタンダードだ。指定例は次の通り。一般的に使用できるシグナルは下表に挙げた。
