英国の2010年第4四半期のGDP(国内総生産)速報値は衝撃だった。政府の急激な緊縮財政を正当化した力強い景気回復は、今どこへ行ってしまったのか? 一言で言えば、どこにも存在しない。 問題は単に、GDPが前四半期と比べ0.5%減少したということではない。イングランド銀行のマーヴィン・キング総裁が1月25日の重要なスピーチで指摘した通り、景気回復は以前から「途切れがち」になる可能性が高かった。もっと重要なのは全体像だ。 第4四半期のGDPは、直近のピークだった2008年第1四半期の水準を4.4%下回っており、2006年第1四半期のGDPと同じで、過去20年間のトレンドラインを8%下回っていた。要するに、経済は非常に弱いのである。 ただでさえ弱い英国経済、緊縮財政が本格化する前に縮小 GDPの縮小は修正されて消えるかもしれない。だが、その可能性は低い。最初の試算値と3年後に出される数値との間で
