ユーザー・インタフェース（UI）を改善する作業を始める際，ほとんど必ず質問されることがあります。「そんなことをやって得になるのか？」「費用対効果でみて有益なのか？」——。 UIを改善することが何になるのかを，下の問いで説明してみましょう。質問は簡単です。「水の流れている“蛇口”の水を止めるには，レバーを上げますか，下げますか？」です。 答えは，どちらも「正解」です。日本には，二つのUI（レバーを上げて水を止める方式と，下げて止める方式）が存在するからです。したがって答えの集計結果は，その分布を表します。私は講演などの場で何度かこの集計をしていますが，大抵はほぼ同じだけ手が挙がります。しいて言えば，「２」の下げる方がやや多いでしょうか。いずれにしろ，余り差はないと言えると思います。 この問題の趣旨は，間違った（水を多く出す）方向にレバーを動かした場合に何が起こるかを考えてもらうことです。もち
