手塚治虫は、1928年11月3日、大阪府豊中市に3人兄弟の長男として生まれた。 開放的な家庭に育ち、漫画とアニメーションに親しみ、機智に富んだ想像力豊かな少年であった。 また昆虫をこよなく愛し、ファーブルを思わせる少年でもあった。自身のペンネームに「虫」という字を当てたことでも、その興味の程がわかる。 戦争体験から生命の尊さを深く知り、医学の道を志して後年医学博士になるが結局彼自身が一番望んだ職業を選んだ。 すなわち漫画家、アニメーション作家である。手塚治虫が創作した漫画とアニメーションが、第２次世界大戦後の日本の青少年の精神形成の過程で果たした役割は計り知れない。 手塚は、それまでの我が国の漫画の概念を変え、数々の新しい表現方法でストーリー漫画を確立し、漫画を魅力的な芸術にした。また、彼の作品は、文学や映画をはじめ、あらゆるジャンルに影響を与えた。 同時にアニメーションにおいても、漫画に
