What are Repositories? There are literally thousands of Ubuntu programs available to meet the needs of Ubuntu users. Many of these programs are stored in software archives commonly referred to as repositories. Repositories make it easy to install new software, while also providing a high level of security, since the software is thoroughly tested and built specifically for each version of Ubuntu. U
I wish to run Ubuntu on my iMac from external USB storage, either an external disk or a flash drive. I can easily create a bootable USB stick and use that to install Ubuntu 14.04 onto a properly partitioned USB device. However, contrary to some assertions here and elsewhere, after restarting the result is not detected by the Mac as bootable. I have Googled extensively and I'm sure it's possible to
http://www.jp.freebsd.org/cgi/mroff.cgi?subdir=m …
Introduction One of the most basic tasks to that you should know how to do on a fresh Linux server is add and remove users. When you create a new server, you are only given the root account by default. While this gives you a lot of power and flexibility, it is also dangerous and can be destructive. It is almost always a better idea to add an additional, unprivileged user to do common tasks. You al
Checking your Ubuntu Version There are two ways to check which version of Ubuntu you are running. You can either check from within Unity, or put in a short command line in the Terminal. In Unity Unity is the default desktop environment since Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal). Please note that this method will only show a partial version number. If you need a full version number like 14.04.1 LTS instead
