    蟠桃／バントウ／Plattpfirsiche／平桃：特徴や産地と旬 ■蟠桃（バントウ）とは？ ●果実が円盤状の品種を指す総称 蟠桃（バントウ）は中国が原産とされる桃の品種で、日本で一般的な比較的丸い桃とは違い、平たい形をしているのが大きな特徴で、それらにはいくつもの品種があり、「蟠桃（バントウ）」はそれらの総称として使われています。 この「蟠桃（バントウ）」という呼び名は別名「座禅桃（ザゼンモモ）」とも呼ばれ、中国では古くから不老不死の「仙果」として扱われてきたと言われています。あの孫悟空と猪八戒が食べた不老不死の桃、それがこの蟠桃と伝えられています。 「蟠」という漢字の意味は日本語では”蟠る（わだかまる）”と言い、不平や不満で心がすっきりしない状態として使われる事が多いですが、その他にも、”かがんでうずくまる様子”や、”リング状に巻いている様子”といった意味もあるとされています。扁平な形
