Gridlee: Get it before it's gone. Gridlee is a freeware arcade game from 1982 which was re-released on the iTunes App Store by David Loureiro. This would have been unremarkable, if Gridlee was a straight port from the source code and if it wasn't actually powered by an up-to-date and fully featured version of MAME4iOS Reloaded. This means if you have a program capable of tunneling into the iOS fil

Yesterday I posted a gripe about a particular bug in a particular piece of software I use, and the usual suspects wanted to turn that into a referendum on the healing, cleansing power of Open Source. So, since you obviously care, here's why I use Safari. There are both specific and general reasons, and I know ahead of time that all of this is going to be misinterpreted and taken out of context, bec
the secret history of the about:jwz url. © 2011 Jamie Zawinski <jwz@jwz.org> I realized recently that while I have written about the history of the about:authors URL, I have never explained the history of the about:jwz easter egg. Well, I guess it's been long enough, so now it can be told. The about: URL had been in the Netscape browser from the beginning; it displayed the splash screen with a log
Normally I just ignore navel-gazing tech-industry articles like this, but people keep sending it to me, so I guess this guy is famous or something. Michael Arrington posted this article, "Startups Are Hard. So Work More, Cry Less, And Quit All The Whining" which quotes extensively from my 1994 diary. He's trying to make the point that the only path to success in the software industry is to work ins
