なぜTwitterは相対時刻表記を求めるのか
最初は「最近横暴だなー」とか思っていたけど、よく考えると、絶対時刻表記より相対時刻表記の方が理にかなっていると気づいた。 要するにタイムゾーンの問題。日本だとタイムゾーンがひとつしか無いからわかりにくいだろうけど、アメリカは複数ある。 例えば、「サンフランシスコからスマホを持ってニューヨークへ飛行機で移動、その間に中央部の友達がツイートを投稿、それをニューヨークで降りてから閲覧」というシチュエーションを考えると、「13:22」とかいう絶対時刻表記よりも「3時間前」という相対時刻表記の方がわかりやすい。だって、「13:22」って書かれても、その時刻がどのタイムゾーンなのか、仮にニューヨークだとしてもスマホの時刻設定が十分正確なのかは、いちいち確認しないといけない。新しいスマホは自動的にタイムゾーンをあわせてくれるけど、古い携帯や、簡素なノートパソコンだとあわせてくれない可能性がある。だったら
