30年間贋作を制作し、資産家や神父を装って美術館に寄贈し続けた男
『美術館を手玉にとった男』は、とんでもなくユニークな贋作者を題材にしたドキュメンタリーだ。事の発端は、2008年にオクラホマシティ美術館のレジストラー（情報管理担当者）、マシュー・レイニンガーが、マーク・ランディスなる人物によって寄贈された作品が贋作だと気づいたことだった。彼は他の美術館に問い合わせるなど調査を始め、驚くべき事実が明らかになっていく。ランディスは30年にわたって多様なスタイルを駆使して贋作を制作し、資産家や神父を装って美術館を訪れ、慈善活動と称してそれらを寄贈していた。騙された美術館は全米20州、46館にも上った。 ともに美術界にバックグラウンドを持つふたりのドキュメンタリー作家が、「ニューヨーク・タイムズ」の記事でランディスのことを知ったとき、事件の背景はまだ解明されておらず、謎に包まれていた。そこで彼らはランディスに接触し、その実像に迫っていく。 『美術館を手玉にとった
