The satellite view of Yoshida-ryo on Google Earth shows the overall structure of the dormitory. 京都大学吉田キャンパスの南端には、周りに木が生い茂り、今にも崩れそうな木造建築が E 字型に配置されている。 この非常に荒廃が進んだ建物は、生い茂った木々と同化しているようにも見えるが 決して廃墟ではない。 この何十年も時代を遡ったかのような建物は、吉田寮である。 吉田寮が建築された約 1 世紀前には沢山あった木造大学寮だが、現存するのはこの寮だけではあるまいか。 吉田寮は1913 年に建てられた。 当初から寮生の寮自治会によって運営されており、入寮選考も自治会の手に任されている。 1971 年に文部省は「さまざまな紛争の根拠地」と称して学生寮の閉鎖や規制を行い、同自治会は存続の危機にも直面した。 1
