米カーネギーメロン大学（ペンシルベニア州ピッツバーグ）はこのほど、スプレー塗料を吹きかけた物体がタッチパッドのような入力装置として利用できるようになるセンシング技術「Electrick」を開発したと発表した。スマートフォンの背面や自動車のハンドル、3Dプリンタで出力した物体など、対象となる物体の形状を問わず、さまざまな面でタッチ操作を検出できるという。 同大の次世代インタフェース研究グループ「Future Interfaces Group」が開発。カーボンなどが含まれる導電性のスプレー塗料を吹き付けた面の端に、電流が流れる複数の電極を対になるように取り付け、指が触れた部分の微弱な電圧変化を検出することで、タッチ操作を認識する仕組み。
