2009年2月17日 概要 国立天文台などの研究者チームは、すばる望遠鏡に搭載されたコロナグラフで、太陽系外の若い恒星の周りにあるガスと塵の円盤 (原始惑星系円盤) の表面に固体の水である氷が存在していることを初めて直接的に確認しました。 これまでの観測から氷の存在は示唆されていましたが、円盤にあるのか円盤を取り巻く構造 (エンベロープ) にあるのかは良く分かっていませんでした。今回、すばる望遠鏡の高い解像力により、氷が惑星形成現場である原始惑星系円盤にあることが初めてわかったのです。 惑星は、原始惑星系円盤の中でチリが大量に集まってできると考えられています。そのときに、塵に含まれていた氷が惑星の海の材料になる可能性があります。今回発見された氷は、将来、この恒星のまわりに惑星が生まれるときに、そこでの海や生命の誕生を議論するための貴重な観測データになります。 解説 約40億年前、地球の表面
