_reindex and _update_by_query are coming to Elasticsearch 2.3.0 and 5.0.0-alpha1! Hurray! _reindex reads documents from one index and writes them to another index. It can be used to copy documents from one index to another, enrich documents with fields, or recreate the index to change settings that are locked when the index is created. _update_by_query reads documents from an index and writes them
Elasticsearch users have delightfully diverse use cases, ranging from appending tiny log-line documents to indexing Web-scale collections of large documents, and maximizing indexing throughput is often a common and important goal. While we try hard to set good general defaults for "typical" applications, you can quickly improve your indexing performance by following a few simple best practices, de
Effective search is not just about returning relevant results when a user types in a search phrase, it's also about helping your user to choose the best search phrases. Elasticsearch already has did-you-mean functionality which can correct the user's spelling after they have searched. Now, we are adding the completion suggester which can make suggestions while-you-type. Giving the user the right s
Elasticsearch ships with good defaults and requires very little configuration. Most settings can be changed on a running cluster using the Cluster update settings API. The configuration files should contain settings which are node-specific (such as node.name and paths), or settings which a node requires in order to be able to join a cluster, such as cluster.name and network.host. Config files loca

WARNING: The 2.x versions of Elasticsearch have passed their EOL dates. If you are running a 2.x version, we strongly advise you to upgrade. This documentation is no longer maintained and may be removed. For the latest information, see the current Elasticsearch documentation. Elasticsearch is used by some companies to index and search petabytes of data every day, but most of us start out with some
UPDATE: This article refers to our hosted Elasticsearch offering by an older name, Found. Please note that Found is now known as Elastic Cloud. 14-day hosted Elasticsearch no-cost trials are available on Elastic Cloud. Can Elasticsearch be used as a "NoSQL"-database? NoSQL means different things in different contexts, and interestingly it's not really about SQL. We will start out with a "Maybe!",
