シグマ計画／(コ)の業界のオキテ
シグマ計画というコンピュータに関する通産省の国家プロジェクトがあった。このプロ ジェクトは、ソフトウェア開発の効率化を目指したものであった。 「１９９０年には６０万人のソフトウェア開発技術者が不足する」 との報告書が１９８４年に産業構造審議会から出され、将来のソフトウェア・クライシス 対策として始まった。このプロジェクトに下に作られたコンピュータが「シグマ・コンピュー タ（シグマ・ワークステーション）」である。正確には、シグマ計画で作り上げた物は、 コンピュータではなく、シグマＯＳというコンピュータを制御しているオペレーティング・ システムであるが、そんな細かいことはどうでも良い。 結論から先に言えば、この国家プロジェクトは、見事なまでの大失敗であった。国家プ ロジェクトの期間は１９８５年からの５年間であった。終了時点で失敗ははっきりしてい たのであるが、プロジェクトの期間が終わると同時に
