A common problem with float-based layouts is that the floats' container doesn't want to stretch up to accomodate the floats. If you want to add, say, a border around all floats (ie. a border around the container) you'll have to command the browsers somehow to stretch up the container all the way. The problem Let's try it. Yuhu's Definitive Solution with Unknown Height Though there is a CSS property vertical-align, it doesn't work like attribute valign in HTML tables. CSS property vertical-align doesn't seem to be able to solely solve this problem: Definition of the problem there is an area (e.g. <div>) with known height in the page an internal object (typically long text in <div>) is inside the area and I don't kno

The kind of typography I'm talking about is not your typical "What font should I use" typography but rather your "knowing your hanging punctuation from your em-dash" typography. Call me a little bit purist but this bothers me. So, in an attempt to sp
CSS layout: 100% height with header and footer Sometimes things that used to be really simple with tables can still appear pretty hard with CSS. This layout for instance would consist of 3 cells; two with a fixed height, and a third one in the center filling up the remaining space. Using CSS, however, you have to take a different approach. Min-height The #container element of this page has a min-h
