現在の日本の銀行の決済サービスは、ハブ&スポーク型のネットワークにより運行されており、ハブである銀行のコンピュータのセキュリティに大きなコストをかけている。銀行業務の基本は、決済サービスと金融サービスの結合生産にあるが、低金利下においてコストがかさむ一方、シナジーが十分発揮されず、行き詰りに直面している。 これを打破するためには、グローバル化やICT利用のユビキタス化がすすむ企業ニーズの変化に対応した決済サービスの高度化が必要である。現在、既存のシステムに基づく努力が進められているが、クロスボーダーの決済等でおのずと制約がある。この点、暗号通貨に用いられている技術は競争力が高く、決済分野でも、IP電話がかつての国際電話にとってかわったような現象が生ずる可能性もある。銀行は、自らの決済サービスにこの技術をとりいれることで、現状のブレークスルーとするとともに、日本企業の活動へのサポートを強化す
