ベルナール・チュミ 建築を語る
今年6月に開館したアテネのアクロポリス美術館の設計者、ベルナール・チュミ氏に同美術館建設での体験や建築に対する考えを聞いた。 スイス生まれでスイス、フランスの国籍を持つチュミ氏は、現在ニューヨークとパリに建築事務所を持ち世界の舞台で活躍する。アクロポリス美術館、サンパウロ現代美術館、フランスのリモージュ・コンサートホールなど、イベントが行われる建築物を多く設計しているチュミ氏に、こうした建物を中心に考えを語ってもらった。 チュミ氏にとって、建築物を取り巻く 周囲の環境や歴史的背景 (コンテキスト ) は、建築の使用目的や建築そのもの ( コンセプト ) と強い相互関係 ( インターアクション ) で結ばれている。例えばコンテキストを無視してのコンセプトはあり得ない。 進行中の考古学現場の上に建設せざるを得ないなど、今回のアクロポリス美術館建設は、絶えずこのコンテキストとの戦いを強いられた。
