この10月はWebブラウザの話題で持ちきりだった。まず,米Microsoftが10月初旬,「Internet Explorer 7.0(IE 7)」の最終版(正式版)を10月中にリリースすることを表明。そして10月18日(米国時間),IE 7最終版が登場した(関連記事)。 その2日前,米Mozilla Foundationは「Firefox 2」のRC(Release Candidate:製品候補版)3をリリース。それから1週間もたたない24日(米国時間),Firefox 2の最終版がリリースされた(関連記事)。 IEにとっては2001年以来となる5年ぶりの大刷新。一方のFirefox 2は,2005年11月リリースの「1.5」からほぼ1年ぶりとなる。いずれもバージョン番号が1つ繰り上がるメジャー・アップグレード。絶妙なタイミングで2大ブラウザが刷新されたことで,大きな話題となった。国内外
この10月に相次いで正式リリースされた、Internet Explorer 7.0(以下、IE7)とFirefox 2.0(以下、FF2)。いまやPCを使う際に欠かせない道具であり、Webブラウザのあり方に影響を与える"リーディングWebブラウザ"であるだけに、何が変わったのか、どのような新機能が搭載されているのかは気になるところ。どちらを選ぶべきか、と悩むユーザも少なくないはずだ。 そこで今回、IE7/英語版とFF2/日本語版の検証を試みた。制作者の意図通りレイアウトされるか、CSSなどを含むW3C標準規格の条件を満たしているか、といった本来Webブラウザに求められる表示機能ではなく、Webフィードや検索バーといった便利機能、フィッシング詐欺検出ツールなどセキュリティ関連機能を中心に、この2つのWebブラウザを比較してみたい。 前回から約5年ぶりのメジャーバージョンアップとなる「Inte
